Okay, I made an earlier response here, but realized I misread your post.
I also realized I didn't know as much as I thought I did about changing tempo in S1.. so I did a bit of looking around, and found this wonderful video called 'Tempo Track Editing in Presonus Studio One' by fellow member Johnny (themuzic) which I think explains what you're trying to do:

I certainly learned something new (and it actually allowed me to cross off one of the big features I thought was missing from S1). Thanks, Johnny!
